Reference Books
The Reference collection is usually an excellent starting point for research projects. Reference books are non-circulating items (they cannot be checked out) and are designed to be used to look for specific information rather than read cover to cover. Additionally, reference books contain bibliographic records that can lead to the discovery of further resources to support one's thesis. In some instances, the reference books are compiled or supported by primary source documents or case studies

Science.gov (http://www.science.gov/) authoritative U.S. government science information site includes current research and development projects.
American Civil Engineering Magazine (http://pubs.asce.org/magazines/CEMag/) online magazine from ASCE publications, provides full text access to featured article for 2007-2008 CE magazine, abstracts for the remaining articles for nonmembers, includes CE newsletter for nonmemebers, searchable research databases that provide bib records and abstracts from 1970 to the present.

Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory (http://www.msel.nist.gov/) the National institute of Standards and Technology site that provides access to material standards, annual reports, research publications and recommended practice guides as well as schedules for upcoming workshops and conferences.
Structurae (http://structurae.net/) created and maintained by Nicolas Janberg, Structurae is a searchable international database and gallery of structures.
Mechanical Engineering: the Magazine of ASME (http://www.memagazine.org/) provides electronic version of its print magazine plus the latest technological advancements and industry related business news also provides vetted links to technology related web sites.
Electrical Construction & Maintenance (EC&M) (http://ecmweb.com/) offers in depth thechnical articles, market and construction forecasts and comprehensive product reviews.
Nuclear Science and Technology (http://www.aboutnuclear.org/home.cgi) is a peer reviewed site that explores the history and major applications of nuclear science and technology.

WolframAlpha: computational knowledge engine (http://www.wolframalpha.com/) is not a search engine but a computation tool that is a long term project designed "to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable and accessible to everyone."
