Information Literacy Instruction

Schedule your class now for an information literacy session in the Lakeland Library. The Librarians at Lakeland encourage the growth of information literate learners and collaborate with faculty to create assignments that teach effective search strategies, analyzing information, using information responsibly, and using technology to access information. Sessions can be designed to meet the needs of a specific assignment or more generally to acquaint students with resources available in your discipline.

  • Schedule a library instruction session by fill out the Library Instruction Request Form and return it by email or inter-office mail to Thomas Hyland.

    Information Literacy Outcome Templates

If search strategies, analyzing information, using information responsibly and using technology to access information sound familiar it's because these are the concepts involved in the Information Literacy Outcome (GEO#). Lakeland's Librarians have created short template assignments to address the Information Literacy Outcome. These are available for you to adapt and use in your classes. Please contact the Library Reference desk to speak to a librarian for assistance incorporating Information Literacy into your course offerings.

For more information about placing your materials on electronic reserve or about reserves in general, please contact Judy Schmidt by phone at x7463 or send email to reserves@lakelandcc.edu

  • Textbook Reserves - We encourage faculty who have extra copies of current textbooks to place them on reserve in the library for students who need to use them.

  • Traditional Reserves - These are hardcopies of items for students to use as the faculty determines. These are kept behind the circulation desk and include such things as textbooks, sample assignments, supplemental readings, software programs.

    Book Discussion Group

Lakeland Library's Book Discussion Group began in the Fall 2003. The Book Discussion Group selects works from a variety of genres. Members choose books that interest them from a variety of genres and read a selection each month. Members take turns presenting the book and leading the conversation. Many selections are complex; group discussion provides for a diversity of perspectives, making the monthly meeting a lively and rewarding experience. Click on the link to the left for more detail.

As an offshoot of the Book Discussion Group, faculty, staff and administrators are cordially invited to share and swap books all year round at the Library's Continuous Book Exchange. Located in the Library Offices C-2056, open M-F from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm., bring a book and take a book! Will the reading never end? We hope not! Call (440) 525-7067 for more information.

    Displays

The Library has a large display case and bookcases in the lounge area that can be scheduled by faculty and staff wishing to feature a theme, upcoming event or student activity. Please email Kathy Fink at kfink@lakelandcc.edu for a packet on scheduling the display cases.
